When discussing “suicide,” an extremely personal subject, is it the act of killing oneself, a crime, or a choice towards freedom?
My site is located in the northeast corner, where the land converges to a point and extends into the sea. This extreme environment forces those contemplating dying to make a decision whether to “leave” or “stay.” As you walk along the trail of the northeast corner, a white lighthouse appears in front of you, like a landmark. It is an existing structure, symbolizing the end of the road.
I propose a “hotel” hoping to explore the relationship between the contemplator and the guardian. The architectural layout is constructed along an axis based on the logic from presence to absence, discussing a gradual transition of materials: from the most complete concrete spaces, to weathering steel room, and finally to a wooden hut for burning. At the end of the axis is the place where ashes are scattered, the lighter ashes are blown away by the wind, and the heavier ones are carried away by the water. What originally belonged to this world is returned in the freest manner.
